Feinstein Shows Who Is "Mainstream"
Samuel Alito is outside the mainstream of public thought and judicial philosophy; that is the incessant charge of Alito’s opponents. I have mentioned in the recent past how this is an insane assertion and it is the party of liberals who are truly outside the mainstream of public opinion on many, many things.
But I will continue to drive home the point because it will be a continuous harangue long after Samuel Alito is confirmed.
The latest liberal to reveal just how far outside the mainstream these liberals really are is Senator Dianne Feinstein. In a recent appearance she made comment explaining her reason for intending to vote against Alito’s confirmation. The context was surrounding her fears that Samuel Alito might vote to overturn that special and hallowed right of a woman to kill her baby. Given the chance, she fears Alito would overturn Roe vs. Wade.
That backdrop is important in fully understanding Feinstein’s next statement and who is truly outside the mainstream. Feinstein said, “The fundamental right to liberty is at stake with this candidate.”
Let’s parse her statement: Abortion is, according to this Senator, “the fundamental right of liberty.” According to the dictionary, this Senator believes abortion is THE FOUNDATION or base of liberty and is the essential component of our entire system of rights.
Now let me see; I remember those inalienable rights constitutionally enumerated—rights not granted by any authority short of God Himself—viz., LIFE, LIBERTY and the PURSUIT of happiness. I just don’t recall abortion entering into the equation of constitutional rights until almost 200 years later when in 1973 some men in black created it.................ex-nihilo.
Strange but I see the constitution delineating the right to LIFE as the foundational right of liberty which is diametrically opposed to Feinstein’s statement.
So you tell me who is mainstream and who is not.

Cripes, I will tell you, YOU are out of the mainstream. I don't even know if you can know what it is you are so far removed.
Most people don't want the government or you, Cripes, telling them what to do with their own lives. There used to be a time when the Republican party preached relief from Government intrusion. The wacko right, of which you seem to be the ex-officio chair, is moving it more to a theocracy. Save the Bible thumping for church.
The only saving grace is that the idiot in chief, George Bush, is despised by the majority of Americans and his corrupt party is in decline. There is the answer to your question about the mainstream - not to late for you to join though.
"Socialism needs two legs on which to stand; a right and a left.
While appearing to be in complete opposition to one another,
they both march in the same direction."
Paul Proctor
It is disingenuous to decry the government telling you what to do." If you were honest, you would concede that you don't really mind government intrusion, you just want to be able to be the one who determines when and where the government will intrude.
If you have money in a bank I am willing to bet you would not only appreciate, but demand the government tell someone they have to use your money properly and pay you what was agreed upon.
If you were to enter a hospital with a serious illness but your insurance company determined that your treatment will be too costly so you should be euthanized, I bet you will demand government tell someone otherwise.
Government has a legitimate roll in protecting its weakest and most vulnerable which is why abusive parents have their children removed. Creating, protecting and funding a "right" to kill one's baby is not exactly in keeping with government's ordained task; is not to be found in any document (called the Constitution)and is not supported by the majority of the citizenry of this country.
PB - What is this crap about euthanizing people? Come on, admit that you are one of those inconsistent right wingers who bitch about government and vote Republcian and then go on to tell people how to live their lives, who they can love, what they can do with their bodies.
Don't forget - the large majority of Americans support freedom, and this includes the right to determine what is right for their own families and their own bodies. No one likes pedantic preachers telling them what they should be thinking.
Only a tiny minority think that its OK to force their beleif on others, and this is the same small group that still thinks Bush is doing a great job. They also think Adam and Eve rode to school on dinosaurs.
