Falwell a Misunderstood Giant by Liliputian Liberals

Jerry Falwell dies just about one week ago. Falwell was controversial even among the Christian community and Falwell was known to say some silly, if not, over the top things like the incident about Teletubbies. Hey who hasn't said some pretty stupid things in their life? But for the most part, it is undeniable that Falwell made his mark in American History and in the history of the church. It was Falwell after all who spurred the believing segment of the population into a political force. That could be either a great thing or a not so great thing depending on your politico-Christian perspective and the role of Christians in politics.

But for everything else Falwell stood for, he stood for the "faith once for all delivered to the saints." That Jesus Christ was the Way, the Truth, and the Life was the unmistakable motivation of Falwell's life and the Bible is God's inspired, infallible and authoritative Word was also un mistakable and that is why he was hated. Or maybe you think "hatred" is too strong a word.

Well, consider the following sampling of comments from the blogosphere concerning Falwell's demise.

"Seriously, he is an insensitive, close-minded, bigot who lived in constant fear of hell. There is no better religion to keep the dull minded endlessly occupied. Say hi to Hitler!"

Sensitively put don't you think?

Referring to the date of his death another sensitive person wrote: "What a great day for humanity May 15th has become."

Yet another:

"At this moment, Jerry Falwell is sitting at the gates of heaven, and St Peter is going 'Sorry, mate, hatred and intolerance disqualify you from entry. You're headed to the Other Place. Bad Luck.' What a happy, happy thought."

Even the first "news" alert reported in the Kennebec Journal on line, the brief three sentence or so side bar managed to also mention that Falwell had been invited to a Peek's Island dedication of a 200 year old Baptist Church, some on the island were upset because of his comments regarding homosexuality and abortion and other moral issues.

One day--the truth--the real TRUTH will be known about ALL of "this." And as the Bible says, it will be a time of wailing and gnashing of teeth, but not by those who, like Falwell, knew the one true Savior of mankind and who stuck his neck out trying to minimize the number of those who will be wailing and gnashing their teeth. Despite what the media likes to portray, Christians do not gloat over and are not desiring of those who will perish without Jesus. But we are human and we do say things that we wished we hadn't but at the end of the day, our very existence is with a view to trying to prevent people from going to hell, not celebrating when they do.

Bigotry and Bias Behind Teacher's Denial of Tenure

Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez is not an idiot. He's not simplistic, he's not anti-intellectual. What he is, is FIRED--or might as well be!

Gonzalez is an astronomer and until recently was a professor at Iowa State. Never mind that he is the author of the book The Privileged Planet, has 68 published, peer reviewed, scientific articles to his credit, and has authored a college level textbook. Forget that he was the mastermind of the research that led to the discovery of two planets. Gonzalez committed the unpardonable sin at least to those who are the always open-minded geniuses of the kingdom of atheist academia.

Gonzales happens to believe--because the scientific process leads him to such a conclusion, that the world was brought forth by intelligent design. Oh the shame of it all; how can anyone with half a brain believe in God? Gonzales' work on behalf of I.D. never occurred in the classroom; it was always on his time. But when you're a godless liberal--pardon the repetition and redundancy-- J you cannot allow such a heretical view for it only heightens their culpability before the God that doesn't exist. Like the soviet atheist being questioned whether he believes in God or not exasperated protested, "God knows I don't!"

Now lest you think that perhaps there's a misunderstanding in his denial of tenure--which is tantamount to being fired, members of the astronomy department responsible for his fate admitted that his views on I.D. influenced their decision. And being the good man Gonzales is, he wasn't even going to fight his denial. But friends convinced him that he needed to in order to stop the precedent it might set if he allowed it to go unchallenged.

So he is appealing and if the university has any common sense at all, they will astutely acknowledge that their prejudices about people of faith will be shredded in the courts. I hope the good teacher gets a whopping settlement so he can retire and write another book on--Intelligent Design.

Another Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day; it used to be called Decoration Day but was changed to reflect the honoring of those who had given the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.

In case it glides to quickly through the sieve of your mind let me remind you that the ultimate sacrifice means the giving or forfeiting of one's life for the cause of freedom as codified in our nation's guide--The Constitution of the United States.

Memorial Day as with Veteran's Day, and Independence Day ought to be among the biggest celebrations of the year. That they are not, is telling about the low state of our country's assessment of the vision of America.

In universities across this once great land, students are given a comprehensive and endless indoctrination about the wicked America that inserts itself in places around the globe where it has no business going.

A woman recently asked me exasperated, "Why we are in Iraq with all that's going on Darfur." A good question on the surface and if the purpose of our military was to be the policemen of the world, the question is even more valid. But that is not why we have a military.

We have a military expressly trained to kill people and break things; specifically people who want to do harm to Americans and the American way of life. Personally I wish we were in Darfur, but the reality is the citizens of Darfur are not bent on blowing up America.

And NO! it's not about oil. It is about the cherished way of life in America; a life that the world so envies that thousands upon thousands risk their lives each year sneaking across deserts, strapping themselves to rafts, cramming themselves into trucks just for the chance to get across our border and experience America for themselves.

And the greatest disservice taking place as I write, are the treasoness statements issuing out of Washington D.C. It would be great--actually it would be heaven if a national defense wasn't necessary, but the sinfulness of mankind necessitates its existence and I thank God Almighty for all those in our country's past who have given the ultimate sacrifice for all our good pleasures and freedom. And I am shamed by the conduct of our national leaders who are elected to preserve our liberty and are actually this nation's greatest threat.

Air America Tries To Make American Airwaves Air Liberal--ONLY

Well sports fans, I hate to always be the bearer of bad news but part of the reason we always have bad news is because God's people failing to be God's people. Over the years, we have retreated from society into holy cloisters and allowed the godless to assume the thrones of power through out our fair nation. So, I merely try to pull the duffle bag off the heads of people of faith so they can see the light, and the dark, of day.

The forces of wickedness are really in a panic having lost some of their heretofore unchallenged control of the information highway. Conservative talk radio and cable television can now reveal the emperors clothes for what they are and the emperor is not happy.

Remember Air America? It was going to be the liberal's answer to Rush Limbaugh. It failed and failed big simply because the guiding principle of liberals is a vacuous as the skulls of its leaders. In a surprising statement, Nancy Pelosi's senior advisor--reported in The American Spectator--May 14--commented on Pelosi's attempts to revive the so-called "fairness doctrine." This is what he said.

"First, [Democrats] failed on the radio airwaves with AIR AMERICA, no one wanted to listen. Conservative radio is a huge threat and political advantage for Republicans and we have had to find a way to limit it. Second, it looks like the Republicans are going to have someone in the presidential race who has access to media in ways our folks don't want, so we want to make sure the GOP has no advantages going into 2008."

Remember the "fairness doctrine" is not about fairness, it is all about silencing as much as possible, the conservative viewpoint which is appealing because it so often derives--even if unintentionally--from a biblical world view. Liberals make no apology about undermining the Constitution of the United States and the hallowed right of free speech. Such right belongs only to the godless elites of this nation who are ruining it faster than any outside enemy ever could. They have now targeted a large Christian radio network, Salem Broadcasting, among others.

The battle, which is thoroughly spiritual, will manifest through worldly entities. So we'd better keep our noses in the BOOK, as this is the promise of the days ahead.

New Adoption Inititative Is Right but Wrong Headed

According to a story from the Pastor's Weekly Briefing published by Focus on the Family, "foster care could drastically be reduced in the United States if the estimated 65 million evangelicals got involved in a [new initiative called] 'orphan care.'"

So far the story isn't surprising but what caught my attention was the motivation for this new initiative spelled out in the last part of the brief.

"'…churchgoers are being encouraged to consider adoption or foster care to respond to criticism that, while condemning abortion and same-sex adoption, evangelicals do not do enough for children without parents,' according to CBSNews.com."

At the risk of being misunderstood I respond quite negatively to any kind of reaction that compels a people of faith to do this, that, or the other thing in order to somehow lessen the criticism of godless authorities who pride themselves on ridiculing the faithful any chance they get. The fact is, no matter what a Christian does, the God-haters twist it, bend it, or flat out lie about it just to marginalize the Christian for in so doing, they legitimize--in their own minds--their rebellion against God himself.

Let me be clear--I am all for Christians adopting but if a Christian never adopted a single a child, it would still be appropriate to decry the atrocities of abortion, and of the illicit sex that produces millions of unwed mothers and on and on. That does not mitigate the pro-life message. Right is right and the necessity of proclaiming what is right is not contingent on the righteous taking up the slack, or paying the price, of the consequences of the unrighteous.

In other words, I can and should speak out against drunk driving and that doesn't necessitate my publishing my phone number in order to be available to give rides to anyone who calls under the influence.

I can speak out against divorce without having to supplement the divorced woman's income once she is on her own and it does not make my protest against divorce less compelling or proper.

Once again, truth is true regardless and a person committed to truth in his own life is not obligated to make up for or pay for the lack of truth in someone else's. I am disappointed that this new initiative--which is a good to be sure--is so poorly defended on the basis of somehow neutralizing the negative comments about evangelicals from the mainline media. It is the words of Jesus not the words of Kouric and her ilk that should compel us to action.

Adoptions Shouldn't Be Such a Hassle

In my last commentary I opined concerning the push to get more evangelicals involved in adopting so as to put our proverbial money where our mouth is concerning our "pro-life" proclamations. If you missed that, you can find it in written form at cripescorner.blogspot.com.

One of the biggest hindrances to more people getting involved in adoptions is the intrusion posed by the government; the exorbitant costs associated with many adoptions and the protracted process and hassles that come with trying to adopt. I do understand that it's not like buying a puppy but if God can knit a baby together in the womb in 9 months we ought to be able to refine the process down from 2-3 years or longer.

Adoptions from states where a child has been involved in foster care is the least expensive but can still cost into the thousands of dollars. The broad average for all types of adoptions is $5000-$10,000 but can run up to $30,000 and more for adoptions of children from other countries.

The cost is not the only deterrent, especially for a people of faith. Home studies are required to make sure children are being placed in to a "good" home. The problem today is that a "good" home is defined more and more by those on the left end of the ideological spectrum and view religion negatively.

Currently, I know a Christian family going through the process; the home study was positively offensive. "What would you do if your child grows up to be gay?" The investigator asked? (Personally I would have asked the examiner what she would do if her child grew up to be a conservative Christian?)

She went on; "You wouldn't divorce your wife under any circumstances? What if she molested your children?"

After explaining their commitment to a Biblical frame of reference as their guide for life, they had to endure a 45 minute lecture on how the Bible is archaic, passé and obsolete and that they needed to be open to more modern ways of looking at life. (I wonder if water-boarding is next…) They still don't know if they "passed" the inquisition.

Throw on top of all that, all the proscriptions regarding parenting and you have plenty of reason why more evangelicals don't adopt. I promise you it will only get worse.

He Ran With Endurance the Race Set Before Him

Just a few minutes ago I received sad news that an old Army buddy of mine had passed away. It wasn't a surprise as Frank had been diagnosed with a "worst case scenario" brain tumor over two years ago. According to the statistics, he should have been dead over a year ago.

There are many reasons to protest this common intrusion into life. I met Frank in the Army while serving at Ft. Campbell Kentucky. We were both medics with an airborne infantry unit and both just teenagers looking for a cheap education when we finished our duty. Frank was your typical, product of the 60's teen who looked to drugs to find his recreation or escape or both. But then there was a radical change in the young man over whom I had immediate oversight--a quirk of Army promotion.

He had changed over night--literally--and the change was due to meeting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Long story short--Frank opened my eyes to Christ and we were both sent on a path of life long change.

Frank became a physical therapist and then received his Ph.D. in some hard to pronounce aspect of physiology excelling in whatever he did. He was an avid runner until the cancer side tracked his ability to keep running but in the race of faith, he never faltered. He was always involved in his church, in his university where he taught, and in his church's plant of a new church, yet while loving his wife and kids and family. He ran the race with endurance, crossing the finish line in fine shape. Not many do that today. Now he can take a breather.

Still my heart aches for his wife and his children and his family, more than usual maybe because, as we say, he died prematurely--He was only 53.

Words like "premature" though have no place in God's dictionary; such words imply random, uncontrolled, unplanned, unanticipated elements in our lives; but such is reality only to us, not to God. Meaning what? Simply that God is God and He knows what He's about even when we don't.

And so we grieve as Paul writes, "but not as those without hope." And grieve we will--yet we know in whom we have believed and at the he is able to keep that which we've committed unto Him against that day. Until we meet again my friend…

Indiana U. Dentistry Scandal Poses Logical Quandry To Relativist's Worldview

Cheating is an interesting concept. How do you define it? How do you determine what is cheating and what is merely taking advantage of an opportunity to advance one's self? If I asked this 40 years ago, most would laugh derisively; "We all know what cheating is."

Perhaps, but that was a long time ago when there was a different moral fabric holding our culture together. Joe Citizen's conscience was still informed--even if unwittingly--by the prevailing Judeo-Christian ethic ingrained into our culture through the influence of God's inspired Word. The Bible determined right and wrong. But in about a half century, our culture "matured" abandoning such archaic paradigms deeming them vestiges of a weak and superstitious people. Relativism usurped the throne of moral absolutes becoming the ruling king of a "wiser America."

So what is the big deal that nearly half the dentistry class at Indiana University has been caught "cheating?" In a society governed by pragmatism, cheating is passé so if opportunity knocks--opportunity to excel on an exam--you take advantage of it.

But apparently some still see a problem with "cheating," especially when it concerns a profession that relies on honesty from its practitioners. Let's face it, when you see your dentist, he or she could tell you just about anything and you'd believe it.

"Really? My molar is cracked? $1000 for a crown? Well, uh Okay!"

It is a serious issue and what is telling, is the commentary surrounding the scandal.

Tim Dodd, executive director for Duke University's Center for Academic Integrity, wins the "Oh brother!" award thus far. He doesn’t excuse the student’s conduct but mitigates it saying, "When you have persons in high places who clearly lie about what's happening with weapons of mass destruction… I think the general public gets the idea that anything that makes money is what's right."

Dodd's comment is factually false though conveniently overlooking 20 or more documented statements publicly issued by a "who's who" of Democrats about the certainty of the existence of WMD in Iraq. Still, you knew sooner or later that George Bush had to be the reason for the student's lapse in integrity.

Dodd proceeds saying something concerning the solution that is mystifying: "We've got to reform the conscience."

Huh? Wait a minute; we either rule our own destinies as the ultimate authority or we subject ourselves to a "Higher Authority" that transcends individual, social and political preference; you can't have it both ways. Alas, the Supreme Court determined which way will guide our nation.

Anthony Kennedy, writing the majority decision in Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, defined liberty as "the right to define one's own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of life."

Voila! You see, we each determine truth for ourselves making even the suggestion of "cheating" nonsense.

If there is no God--a Morals Giver--who transcends culture, time, popularity, or convention, then, according to the supreme law of the land, I am the ultimate authority and beyond question. Cheating then is merely a social construct which prevents some from advancing. Under Kennedy's rubric, such oppression is intolerable in a truly free society dedicated to the declaration of "liberty." Indeed cheating cannot even exist, if, as Kennedy decreed, I have the right to define my own concept of existence. "Hey, in my universe, cheating is not only moral, but honorable."

The inescapable conclusion is that Dodd's statement about reforming conscience is an intolerant and arrogant non-sequitur implying HE knows what is best for everyone else.

Ah the scourge of logical consistency. Thank God for the ability to see Truth as He has defined it. Have you read your Bible lately?

Genderless Education Coming To a School Near You

Sure California is usually a worst case scenario for any type of cultural change and it's easy to think--"Well, that's the land of fruits and nuts, what do you expect?" But it has been shown that what happens in California usually makes it's way across the country within seven years. Actually, I believe that time frame has been shortened as we regress further and further away from the Lord. So, in other words, we need to heed what happens on the West coast.

What's happening is SB 777 and according to Citizen Link, "the bill would require all teaching materials to amend the definition of 'sex' and references to 'male or female.' Instead, students would be taught about "gender defined as either real or imagined, and not limited to a person's assigned sex at birth. The terms, 'mom' and 'dad,' as well as 'husband' and 'wife,' would be edited out of textbooks. School-sponsored social activities, such as homecoming, which elects kings and queens, would be forced to become gender-neutral."

Citizen link continues--"Park Day School in Oakland, Calif., is a private elementary school which practices 'gender variant behavior.' Teachers have stopped asking children to line up according to sex and, in skits, boys can be girls and girls can be boys. There is also a unisex bathroom. Park Day's 'gender-neutral metamorphosis' has occurred over the past few years as kindergartner applications have trickled in from those who didn't fit on either side of the gender line. One girl enrolled as a boy."

I am not sure which is worse--that this sort of thing continues without end and not just in California or that such perverse anthropological redefinition is greeted with a yawn by the culture at large. Oh sure, some like us will click our tongues in disgust, shake our heads in dismay and perhaps even make a comment or two at the water cooler but then that's the end of it. And if not this time around, the next time or the time after that, eventually the bill or a form of it will become law.

Think I'm overstating it? Look at how far into the pit of social scumminess we have come in the past 20 years. And yet we continue to elect the same people with the same world view over and over again. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Welcome to the United Emirates of Saudi America

Are you ready for your sensitivity training? How about buying your hot dogs at another store? Want to wait for another Taxi in the pouring rain even though an empty cab is sitting there waiting? Welcome to the encroachment of the Middle East onto American soil.

Some Muslim workers at a Minneapolis Target are refusing to check out patrons who have pork products in their basket. I am reading the Koran presently and I haven't run across anything yet that prohibits a good Muslim from ringing up some one else's ham. In fact Muslims acknowledge that the Koran doesn't say anything about handling such things, only eating them, but some "FEEL" (there's the operative word) selling or handling pork is also forbidden because it would make them complicit in the sins of others. Target is accommodating those sensitivities--of course--by shifting employee's duties in the store.

Let's see now, I remember numerous Christian health care professionals being fired from their jobs over the years for not wishing to assist a doctor with an abortion but then I guess convictions about handling sealed bacon is qualitatively superior to convictions about killing a baby in this day and age.

And the Islamization of the United States is under way.

At Kansas City International Airport you can find several foot-washing basins in restrooms to accommodate a growing number of Muslim cab drivers who requested the facilities to prepare for their daily Islamic prayer. No matter that it has caused serious problems for airport police and security matters.

"Why are we constructing places of worship for them inside our airports?" said an airport official who requested anonymity. "Why are we catering to their rituals? We don't do it for any other religion."

Ah, but that is a question one is not allowed to ask.

The onslaught continues in the city of sensitivity, Minneapolis: Cabbies at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport are refusing to carry passengers possessing alcoholic beverages or who accompanied by seeing-eye dogs.

Alcohol is forbidden in Islam, and dogs are considered unclean. Again--this is not stated in the Koran; but this is radical, at whim, imposition of one's feelings about what the Koran says. Get used to it.

The spiritual battle is escalating which is why harmless Christians are hated and have the genuine, constitutional rights revoked on a daily basis while the ones who expressly state they want to convert America to Islam, are afforded every consideration and accommodation of their religion to the point of absurdity.
